New Bedford Event Was a Triumph for Veterans In Need
The fifth annual Mission 22K Row, Ski 22K, or Bike 44K event, hosted by the New Bedford chapter of this veterans support group, was a clear success.
Held on Sunday, February 11, the event brought together teams eager to participate in a challenging and rewarding fitness event, all while raising awareness for veteran suicide and PTSD.
Ergfit New Bedford, 127 West Rodney French Boulevard, provided the perfect setting for this community-driven initiative.
Jared Lucas, a U.S. Army veteran who served from 2006 to 2008 and again from 2010 to 2011, was instrumental in organizing the event. Reflecting on the turnout, he expressed his gratitude.
"This was our fifth year holding the event, and we had our biggest groups yet," Lucas said. "It's amazing to see the community come together to support such an amazing cause. I'm looking forward to future events and spreading more awareness."
The event raised $6,226, providing proof of the community's commitment to supporting local veterans suffering from PTSD.
The New Bedford chapter of Mission 22 emphasizes that while the challenge was physical, the spirit was communal. Whether rowing against the tide, skiing toward the finish line or biking through the last kilometer, every stroke, stride, and pedal contributed to a larger cause: promoting fitness and unity.
The success is a testament to the power of community and the importance of supporting our veterans.
Mission 22, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to combating veteran suicide. Through outreach and events like this one, the organization provides support to veterans and their families, ensuring they receive the help they need.
