Fairhaven Radio Host Recalls the Day He Saved Selena Gomez from a Fall
One of the most common questions I get about working at Fun 107 is, “Who have you met?” or “What’s your favorite experience?” And every time, I go back to the same story.
The day I saved Selena Gomez’s life. Sort of.
It was May 10, 2013—12 years ago—when Fun 107 arranged an interview and meet-and-greet with the pop superstar.
At the time, I was still new to the station, just a couple of years in, and I remember Selena being incredibly kind. She had recently gone through a breakup with Justin Bieber, and we were strictly told not to mention him or even say his name. Fair enough.
After the interview, she took photos with a few fans before gathering her things. Her security team decided to bring her car around to the back of the studio for one final staff photo. My job? Survey the area and make sure everything was good to go.
“All set, Selena, you can come on back!” I called out.
She stepped outside, glowing in high heels or some sort of platform shoes that didn’t look easy to walk in. The problem? She didn’t see the curb just outside the back door.
Like a slow-motion movie scene, she miscalculated the step, lost her balance, and started to fall forward. Right place, right time—I reached out and caught her before she could go face-first into the pavement.
Her security team, completely oblivious to what had just happened, immediately jumped into action. “Hey, hey, hey!” they shouted, thinking I was getting a little too close.
“It’s OK,” Selena reassured them. “I tripped, and he caught me.”
You could see the mix of embarrassment and relief on her face.
And that, my friends, is my story. The one I’ll be telling my kids one day.
So, Selena, if you’re reading this—you’re welcome!
