Two Pets Killed, Home Uninhabitable After Fairhaven Fire
FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — Two pets were killed and a home suffered major damage in a Saturday evening fire in Fairhaven.
Heavy Flames Encountered on Main Street
According to the Fairhaven Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 216 Main Street at about 6:59 p.m. on October 10 for a report of a structure fire. Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the side of the first floor of the house. All occupants escaped safely, but they reported their animals were still inside.
Mutual Aid Battled Second-Alarm Blaze
As firefighters battled the blaze, the incident moved to a second alarm. Fire crews from Mattapoisett, New Bedford, and Acushnet provided mutual aid, along with the Providence Canteen. Fairhaven Police and Fairhaven Emergency Management were also on scene.

Home Uninhabitable, Cause Under Investigation
According to the fire department, the fire began on the first floor and extended to the second floor and into the attic. Crews were able to get the fire extinguished but the department said the home “sustained major damage and is uninhabitable.”
Two of the three pets rescued from the home succumbed to their injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the fire department said it is not considered suspicious.
