Fifth Time Massachusetts Ranks Among Lowest For This
When it comes to ranking states, Massachusetts often lands among the top in many categories.
The Bay State has been named among the 'Best States to Have a Baby', one of the 'Best States for Women' and was even named the 'Best Overall State to Live In' just one year ago.
And yet there is one state ranking that Massachusetts finds itself at the bottom of year after year.
World Population Review has been asking tourists and those who recently relocated to rank US states by their friendliness for the last five years. Every year Massachusetts lands near the bottom.
For 2023 Massachusetts ended up at #47, with just Delaware, Arkansas and New York less friendly than Bay Staters.
The results were based on kindness to newcomers and out-of-towners as well as average tip percentage (so perhaps waitstaff around the state can agree with this poll's findings).
Probably no real surprise to find most of New England near the bottom when it comes to friendliness. In fact Maine is considered the most friendly New England state and they only ranked #31 on World Population Review's list.
Vermont wasn't too far behind at #34, Connecticut was #38, Rhode Island #41 and New Hampshire landed at #44.
On the flip side, Minnesota has once again topped the list with Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas and Wyoming rounding out the top five.
Perhaps these scathing one-star reviews of local attractions are more telling than we first thought...
