Westport High School’s ‘Mr. Westport’ Competition Returns for 20th Anniversary
Seven contestants, one crown, and 20 years in the making. Westport High School's Mr. Westport Competition is taking the stage once again.
On Friday, May 5th, seven high school seniors will compete head to head for the chance to claim the locally prestigious title of Mr. Westport for an entire year. Significantly enough, this will be the 20th year since the program launched at the former high school on Main Rd, as it continues as a fun and creative way to raise money for the Westport Booster Association.
Back in 2003, the very first Mr. Westport was Ryan Grant, the following year was Andrew Barroso, and in 2005, it was yours truly. I still, to this day, remember the reaction of the crown when my name was called. It was a brand-new chapter and an entirely new wave of confidence.
Per usual, the categories for the evening will be as follows:
1.) Swimsuit Contest
2.) Talent
3.) Questionnaire (In suits)
The Show begins at 7:00 PM at the new Westport High/Middle School at 400 Old County Rd. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for children. This year's judges are the following:
- Kate Carpenter
- Conor Sowersby
- Lisa MacMaster
- Acadia Cass
- Rick Stang
- Gazelle
Just about every judge is an alumnus of Westport Community Schools or has had a child that's attended school here in Westport.
I'm looking forward to seeing what these seniors are bringing to the table, but most importantly, I hope each individual has FUN! This will be a night they'll remember for the rest of their lives. I guarantee it.
