The Abandoned Rhode Island General Store In New Shyamalan Movie
Filming for the new M. Night Shyamalan movie "Remain" is underway in Rhode Island and the director known for his creepy films has found his perfect set.
Leave it to Shyamalan to choose an abandoned, 237-year-old general store as the location for some of the film's first scenes.
Cast and crew have been spotted in Adamsville, RI this week at the former Gray's General Store, putting this major Hollywood movie within walking distance of Westport, MA.

History of Gray's General Store
Though the store has been left empty for the last 12 years, the historic building still stands at 4 Main Street in Adamsville. Before shutting it's doors for good in 2013, it had the distinction of being the oldest continuously run general store in the country.
First opened in 1788, Gray's has sold goods of all kinds throughout the years. It was even the first post office for Little Compton, which began operating in 1804.

Since 1879 Gray's was owned and operated by the same family. For seven generations they sold penny candy and popsicles to beachgoers, operated a marble soda foundation and sold classic Rhode Island johnnycakes made from locally milled cornmeal.
End of the Gray's General Store Era
Sadly with the passing of Grayton Waite (the sixth generation Gray's proprietor) in 2012, his son Jonah quickly announced that it wasn't financially feasible to keep the store open and shuttered the long-standing business.
There was an attempt in 2013 to re-open, but that was short-lived and the building as been abandoned ever since.

Now new life is bring breathed into this centuries old store.
M. Night Shyamalan Seen Filming at Gray's
After over a decade of silence at Gray's General Store, people were in and out of the historic building by the dozens this week.
Locals noticed the store had been decorated with a large, fake ice cream cone, several old rocking horses and other nostalgic pieces. The former front porch entrance also appeared covered in fabric, so perhaps Shyamalan is looking for a darker setting than these hot, summer days are giving him.
The movie is set to film through August and a major disaster scene is being shot this Friday, June 26. Extras were being sought for this scene and those applying were asked to "be comfortable with fake blood and portraying being crushed by a bridge."
Might be a good reason to head into Adamsville this week to try and get a glimpse of what's happening on the set of "Remain."
