“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill

You've probably heard the phrase “sharing is caring” since you were really little. There is a reason that so many people live their entire lives by that phrase and incorporate it into everything they do. Caring about your community is part of being a great business owner. Our communities are better when people give back and help others.

Creating “Sharing Goals” means you plan on giving to an organization of your choice after you’ve made money. Donating some or all of your profits is a good way to give back to your community. Good business leaders know that helping others is a good thing.

It’s your choice who you help, and it could be kids’ programs, the elderly, animals, the environment, and more. You may even choose to help a friend who is really sick, like in 2018 when 7-year-old Jamari raised $440 to help his best friend Tyree with a lung transplant.

Maybe you share your money with someone you haven’t met yet who could use some help like Delany and Elena in 2019.

What organizations can you think of that help to serve the group you care about? What kind of donation could they use to help them meet their goal?

Sharing can happen in many different ways. Here are some of the common ways people choose to share with others:

  1. Donations - money or goods that help meet a goal with no expectations that it will be paid back
  2. Pay it Forward - this is when someone does something for you, and you pass the good deed along to someone else, moving the act-of-kindness forward.
  3. Share - taking something that is yours and giving a portion of it away.

Over the years, our Lemonade Day Southcoast entrepreneurs have shared thousands of their hard-earned dollars with local and national organizations. In 2019, our entrepreneurs donated to more than 22 local and national charities of their choice.

How will you decide who to share a portion of your hard-earned money with?
