Massachusetts Just Got a Brand-New Custom Drink Lab on Wheels
The dirty soda trend is all the rage in 2026 and it's made its way to the SouthCoast with a brand new mobile soda bar called The Soda Lab.
"I started it because I wanted to bring a fresh, non-alcoholic experience to our community that goes way beyond your basic soda fountain. I rarely drink alcohol and coffee, but I love experimenting with flavors, and I wanted a space where everyone (including children) could do the same," owner Kim Souza said.
What Exactly Is a 'Dirty Soda'?
The dirty soda trend really took off when it hit TikTok and was spotted on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but it originated in Utah back in 2010 as a non-alcoholic beverage for the Mormon community. Drive-thru chain Swig made the first dirty soda, a dirty Diet Coke made with coconut syrup and a splash of cream. Who knew that the crazy combination would take off and become much more than just one beverage?
"Dirty sodas are having a massive moment right now. I think people are loving the nostalgia of a classic soft drink mixed with gourmet flavors and creams, plus the fact that you can customize it exactly how you want is just the best," Souza said. "It's definitely gone from a regional trend to a widespread craving, and the response around here has been incredible."
At The Soda Lab, drink lovers can become a "chemist," as Souza puts it, creating their ideal beverage. "It’s an interactive way for people to build their own custom, unique drinks," she said.

Inside The Soda Lab's Most Popular Menu Items
"Right now, we keep a rotating lineup of about eight to 10 signature combinations along with plenty of ways for people to mix and match their own," Souza said. "Our best sellers are Love Island and Blue Bliss. Both are based with Sprite. One is a blue raspberry mix-up with lemonade, while the other is a strawberry/raspberry mix."
