Dartmouth Lemonade Stand Raising Money for Local Baby in Need of a Heart Transplant

If you see Dartmouth 5th graders Delaney Gove and Elena Sobran waving at you from the corner of Slocum Rd. and Colonial Way this Saturday, you may want to think about stopping.

"Sweet and Squeezy" is participating in the SouthCoast Lemonade Day program for the second year in a row. In addition to donating to the Humane Society, they will be raising money for a local family that needs help from the SouthCoast community.

Lucas Alexander Pacheco was born at 5:03 am on January 2, 2019, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was their New Year’s Baby. New Bedford’s Alexia Orphanides and Brett Pacheco couldn’t wait to welcome their second child.

Lucas has since developed a serious medical condition and is awaiting a heart transplant at Boston's Children's Hospital.

Lucas' dad, Brett Pacheco is the head coach for the New Bedford YMCA Hurricane's swim team and has supported many kids over the years. Now a few of his athletes want to support him and his family during this time of need.

When Delaney, a current Hurricanes swimmer, heard that her coach was going through a tough time, she knew her lemonade stand would be the perfect opportunity to help his family out. She and fellow 5th grader Elena will be running their lemonade stand, Sweet and Squeezy, at the corner of Slocum Road and Colonial Way as part of national Lemonade Day this Saturday, May 4 from 12 to 3 pm.

Across the SouthCoast, hundreds of kids will be operating their lemonade stands and working towards earning some money to save, spend and share with dozens of local charities including many local and national organizations. This is the 5th year the SouthCoast has hosted Lemonade Day as part of the national initiative to teach kids about entrepreneurship.
