Once upon a time, 1914 to be exact, an Italian restaurateur's wife had a baby. She felt so sick during her pregnancy that she couldn't really eat anything. To work up her appetite, the husband cooked a plate of pasta, butter, and cheese. She thought the dish was so good that she suggested he add it to the menu at his small restaurant in Rome. The restaurateur's name was Alfredo di Lelio. Not only was his first son born that year, but so was the masterpiece we now call "Fettuccine Alfredo."

To celebrate National Fettuccine Alfredo Day today, February 7, we asked our listeners to nominate their favorite restaurants with the best Alfredo sauce on the SouthCoast, and the winner was clear.

The Pasta House in Fairhaven has been a popular spot for almost a decade. Owner Mario Ribeiro told FUN 107 that their fettuccine alfredo is made with "imported freshly grated Parmigiana-Reggiano, cream, roasted garlic, butter and fettuccine pasta. Great Italian food is made with simple fresh ingredients."

A special shoutout to the other nominees mentioned in this poll: Kozy Nook in Westport, Mumma Marys Italian Café in Wareham, Café Italia Ristorante in New Bedford, Freestones in New Bedford, Café Roma in New Bedford, Cove Surf and Turf in New Bedford, and Riccardis with locations in both New Bedford and Fairhaven.
