SouthCoast Restaurants Invited to Join 2025 New Bedford Chowder Festival
Calling all local chefs... Think your chowder has what it takes? There’s only one way to prove it.
New Bedford’s most mouthwatering tradition returns this fall, and now’s the time for local restaurants, caterers, and certified kitchens to claim their spot at the 2025 Blount Fine Foods New Bedford Seaport Chowder Festival, happening Saturday, October 11th on City Pier 3.
Whether you specialize in classic clam chowder, whip up a killer kale and chouriço, or have a signature soup that turns heads, Chowderfest is your moment to shine, and trust me, as someone who’s judged this competition twice, it’s a deliciously good time for everyone involved.
A Taste of Friendly Competition
From the judge’s table, I can tell you firsthand: this isn’t just about who’s got the best broth or creamiest clam base (though bragging rights are very real). It’s about the vibe. The waterfront fills with live music, the crowd is buzzing with chowder and soup samples in hand, and local beer and creative cocktails flow like the tide.

Restaurants compete in three tasty categories:
- Clam/Seafood
- Portuguese Specialty
- Signature Soup
Participation is free, and it’s open to any licensed food business or certified kitchen. Thousands of hungry guests will vote for their favorites, giving you the chance to earn new fans and leave with a shiny new title to show off.
Music, Munchies, and Maritime Magic
Beyond the friendly competition, Chowderfest is one of the most fun days of the fall season. Local bands keep the beats going, the air smells like heaven (with hints of littlenecks and linguica), and families, foodies, and first-timers gather to celebrate New Bedford’s culinary scene.
So, restaurant owners... this is your chance to stir things up.
