I'm not going to lie, there are some pretty cool perks to being hosts of the Fun 107 morning show.  Even though the alarm clock goes off at an ungodly hour, on most days the perks more than make up for the daily 3:30am awakenings.

We experienced one of those perks on Sunday when we were asked to be the blind taste test judges for the 19th annual New Bedford Seaport Chowderfest sponsored by Blount Fine Foods.

One by one, a tantalizing mix of the SouthCoast's best chowder, Portuguese soups, and specialty soups were hand delivered to us.  We were tasked with judging each soup for color/presentation, texture, and taste.  The job is every bit as awesome as it sounds, and we can't thank Katie Greene from One SouthCoast Chamber enough for inviting us to participate.

The results are as follows:

Chowder

1.  The Black Whale

2.  Merrill's on the Waterfront

3.  Atlantic Sports

Portuguese Soup

1.  Two Sisters

2.  Cove Surf and Turf

3.  Tipsy Toboggan

Signature Soup

1.  Tequila Lime

2.  Cove Surf and Turf

3.  Macray's Seafood

For what it's worth, the Portuguese soup category was STACKED with deliciousness this year, with a razor thin margin.  All of the Portuguese soups were all nothing short of excellent, and any of them could have been a champion.

Congratulations to all of the participating restaurants this year.  It was a picture perfect day on New Bedford's Pier 3.  There aren't too many more things that are more New Bedford to do on a nice, fall day than sitting around and eating chowder and drinking beer for hours on end.
