Todd Angilly has quite a unique job, performing for thousands inside a packed TD Garden.

While he might not be the headliner, this trained opera singer and Rhode Island native certainly captivates the crowd before each and every Boston Bruins home game.

He's the anthem singer, which means he's setting the tone and getting the crowd on their feet before the puck drops. Though he loves the role, he never dreamt of such an opportunity.

"I wanted to be the next Pavarotti. I did my graduate work at the New England Conservatory in their opera program," Angilly said.

From Bartender to Bruins Anthem Singer

So how did he get the gig? I guess you could say it was a mix of talent and timing.

The great Rene Rancourt, the former Bruins anthem singer, was nearing the end of his career and on occasion Angilly and a few others were selected to fill in.

"One night, there was another fill-in scheduled to perform and that person didn't show up for whatever reason," Angilly recalled. "I was working upstairs at the time at one of the bars."

He had been serving drinks at the Garden for years, keeping fans hydrated while they root for the Bs.

"About eight Boston police officers, along with one of the Bruins staff, came up to swiftly pull me out from behind the bar and drag me down, running, to the ice level and the mic was put in my hand," Angilly said.

His vocal talent didn't go unnoticed by either the fans and the Bruins staff. He later auditioned for the gig once Rancourt retired.

Using Fame to Fuel Community Impact

He's now no longer slinging drinks before singing anthems. Instead, Angilly is out in the community, performing at various events, functions and fundraisers.

He's able to speak with fans and young kids as well. "I say, you never know when an opportunity is going to present itself," he said.

Giving back to the community is something Angilly loves to do, and he's using his celebrity status to help raise awareness, funds and support with a brand new event.
