Forget the bottles of wine and flowers, this is by far one of the best housewarming gifts I ever received that's perfect for 2020.

How many times have you been invited over to a friend or family member's new house and found yourself stumped about what to bring with you? For me, it's been more times than I can count on one hand.

The usual gift card to Home Depot or Lowe's is not necessarily a bad choice, and most certainly goes a long way with house renovations and furniture shopping, but for some reason it doesn't pack that "wow" factor.

Imagine it's Christmas morning and you get a box full of brand new socks and underwear – to me, that's an awesome gift, but now compare it to a brand new car. Not the same, right?

Recently, I moved back to New Bedford and received the surprise of a lifetime when an unexpected box was delivered to the front door.

As soon as the UPS guy handed over the large styrofoam container, I knew right away what it was and couldn't thank the man enough. I'm pretty sure he thought I was a whacko as he was just doing his job.

Turns out that a friend had sent over a housewarming package that was packed full of meat. Yes, you read that right, meat.

Omaha Steaks, to be precise, and I wouldn't in a thousand years think to give that as a present for someone, but here we are in 2020, a time when meat is hard to come by; thanks to the coronavirus, supply is limited. This was by far one of the most generous and ingenious gifts I could have received; although I appreciate something like a nice bottle of whiskey or wine, there's no way you can compare it to some bacon-wrapped filet mignons or a couple of porterhouse cuts.

And Omaha isn't the only company that offers meat delivery; there's ButcherBox, CrowdCow and dozens more.

So the next time you're scrambling for something to say congratulations, give the gift of meat. They'll be glad that you did.
