
Forget Burgers and Hot Dogs, This Is Unexpectedly the Most Popular Grilling Food in Massachusetts
It's grilling season and that means many on the SouthCoast will be stocking up on burgers and hot dogs, especially for the Fourth of July. However, here in Massachusetts the most popular grilling item is neither of those.
Data Reveals a Distinct Coastal Preference
According to a recent survey from Innerbody Research, Massachusetts residents prefer seafood on the grill. "We analyzed Google Trends search data from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., identifying each state's favorite grilled food, the states most interested in grilling overall, and the foods gaining momentum in the weeks leading into summer," Innerbody Research said.
Cod Reigns Supreme in the Bay State
Massachusetts isn't the only state that prefers seafood. Hawaii enjoys shrimp and Louisiana likes a good tuna steak. Here in the Bay State, it's cod that reigns supreme. Now I suppose with the abundance of seafood in the area it's not completely shocking, but cod? Really?
Vegetables like green beans, mushrooms, peppers and eggplant were voted No. 1 in a handful of states and our neighbors to the south, Rhode Island, think zucchini is the best item on the grill.

How the Rest of the Country Compares
While I do agree that a good char on veggies tastes delicious in the summertime, I'd have to say it's not my top choice. Give me a steak any day. That's the thought of many across the country, as beef dominates with 18 states selecting steak as their favorite.
