Meet Mick: 10 Fun Facts About Your New Morning Host
Hello SouthCoast! I am so excited to be starting my days with all of you.
Throughout the past few months Michael, Gazelle and I have been getting to know one another, and I think it’s only fitting that we open the door into some of our conversations and share what they’ve discovered (and things they haven’t yet).
Here are some "fun" facts you may or may not know about your new co-host:
1. Rhody Roots
I grew up in Riverside, Rhode Island, which is part of East Providence. It made for a pretty easy commute when I began co-hosting The Rhode Show, a morning lifestyle TV show covering RI, the SouthCoast and more. The TV station is also in East Providence. I spent 12 years on the show and I’m excited to continue to share the stories of our community here at Fun 107.
2. #MomLife
When I’m not on air, I’m with my family. I have two kids; a son who is five and a daughter who is three. I’m really glad they’re close in age so that they can grow up together and surprisingly enough they get along – for the most part. My son just started kindergarten this year and part of me can’t believe we’re already at this point. Any parent knows just how fast time flies.
3. College Hoops
Like many, I grew up playing sports and in college I went out for the basketball team. My freshman year, I was the only walk-on to make the Bridgewater State College (now University) women’s team and by junior year I was named captain. Michael has mentioned how impressed he is of this and I have to say I’m pretty proud of it, too.
4. There’s Dog Hair on Everything
I think the title for fun fact No. 4 would also be the title of my memoir. We have two dogs: Griffey, a six-year-old chocolate lab and Mo, a one-year-old black lab/golden retriever/Great Pyrenees. Yes, we did a DNA test on Mo because he was so fluffy when we adopted him. We needed to know what we were getting ourselves into. We adopted Griffey and Mo from Save A Lab Rescue out of Rhode Island. *Bonus Fact* They’re named after Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mo Vaughn.
5. Early Mornings/Late Nights
Sometimes. During hockey season, you can find me on the Jumbotron at TD Garden. I’m now in my ninth season as the In-Arena Host for the Boston Bruins. When you come to a Bs game you can find me in the crowd playing games with fans, giving away prizes, interviewing players and alumni and even hosting some of their events in the community. So fair warning, a game night into morning radio may be tough. I promise not to yawn on air.
6. My Parents Are High School Sweethearts
It may seem odd to mention a fun fact about someone else, but your family makes an impact on who you are, how you grow up, what values you have, etc. My parents met in high school and have been together ever since. They began dating 50 years ago, had four girls of which I am the third, and will celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary this year.
7. "That’s What She Said"
Like the millions that are out there, I too love The Office and really anything that Michael Scott has said over the first seven seasons of the show. Even when I had my son, there was an Office marathon on TV which stayed on in the background of our hospital room for three days straight. The sound was barely on, but we didn’t need it to know what was happening. Which brings me to my next point…
8. I Watch Shows with Subtitles On
Ok, go with me on this: maybe it stemmed from those early days with a napping baby, but for some reason our TV is always on closed captioning. I have no idea why I continue to read a show I can hear perfectly fine, but alas, it happens.
9. My Favorite Snack Is a Movie Theater Staple
You guessed it! It’s popcorn. Now, it doesn’t have to be from a movie theater. In fact, I make it at home on the stove most nights. I have to make a large pot of it because I can polish off a large bowl myself. It’s a skill I’ve quickly taught my children. For the record, a soft pretzel is a close second.
10. “You Are My Density”
Safe to say, my husband and I love movies and TV. We quote shows and films on a daily basis and I've got to say it’s something that drew me to him all those years ago. Aside from having a great sense of humor and being the most handsome man in the world, he totally gets my constant (and at times obscure) references. We’ve been married six years and he’s the best...when he’s not snoring.
