That Time I Used the Wrong Photo for Roberto Leal’s Son

I've been living on the SouthCoast long enough to know the big-name Portuguese stars:  Jorge Ferreira, Marc Dennis, Starlight, Roberto Leal, etc.

Now, I'm not going to pretend I'm a huge fan of Portuguese music, but I definitely know the big ones. I mean, let's face it, if you are a wedding DJ on the SouthCoast, having a basic working knowledge of Portuguese music is pretty much mandatory.

I totally know what the late Roberto Leal looks like. I've seen his album covers and concert clips enough to recognize him in a photo.

His son? Well, apparently, not so much.

I was very excited about a nice piece I wrote yesterday on Fun107.com announcing that Roberto Leal's son has picked up where his father left off.  Rodrigo Leal has agreed to complete his father's tour dates, including a very special show right here in Fall River at the Day of Portugal festival. It was a heartwarming story, talking about how Rodrigo not only sounded like his late father when he spoke but also when he sang. Rodrigo finally took advice from his father's promoters and took the plunge into touring.

As I wrapped up my article, I looked online to see if I could find a good photo of Rodrigo. I went onto Facebook and searched photos for Rodrigo. I found what I thought to be his fan page. There were even promotional flyers posted of an upcoming show. I didn't think twice about assuming that this was THE Rodrigo Leal, but you know what they say happens when you assume.

Organizers for the Day of Portugal called this morning to break the news to me. Turns out, I used a photo of a totally different dude. We all had a pretty good laugh wondering about who the other guy could be.   don't know what made me think I knew what the star's son looked like.

To be fair, the updated photo does make a lot of sense. The actual Rodrigo Leal looks a lot more like his dad, Roberto.
