Some great news for fans of the beloved Roberto Leal.

It was just over a year ago when Fun 107 reported that famed Portuguese singer Roberto Leal passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. If you have ever attended a wedding here on the SouthCoast, I would bet money that you've heard one of Roberto Leal's songs played during the reception.

While no one can replace the performances from Roberto Leal, his son Rodrigo is attempting to follow in his father's footsteps, putting together a tour in his father's honor.

The entertainment director for the Day of Portugal, Floriano Cabral, told Fun 107 that Rodrigo was down in Brazil trying to straighten out his father's affairs shortly after he died.

"He was going around and canceling the concert contracts that his father had booked when one of the promoters suggested that he step in and do the shows," Cabral said.

Cabral told us that Rodrigo's voice is exactly like his father's, "both his speaking and singing voice, plus his humble and fun personality is the same as his father," Cabral said.

The first stop in the United States for Rodrigo will be right here Fall River. Rodrigo will be performing all of Roberto Leal's hits with the help of Roberto's band at Day of Portugal. The special Rodrigo Leal show is set to take place on Saturday, June 19 at Portas Da Cidade (Gates of the City) in Fall River.

"Rodrigo wanted to come here and embrace the community that embraced his dad," Cabral said.

Jorge Ferreira and Lucenzo will also appear at Day of Portugal this June.
