Last Chance To See Pawtucket’s McCoy Stadium Before Demolition
A piece of local sports history will soon be no longer.
Pawtucket officials have set a date for the destruction of historic McCoy Stadium and fans of the former sports venue only have a few weeks left to see it still standing.
Though winter isn't the ideal time to head to the ballpark, big fans of the one-time Pawtucket Red Sox will need to get there soon to see the minor league stadium before sledgehammers starts swinging in mid-March.

Back in 2018 it was announced that the Pawtucket Red Sox would be relocating to Worcester for the 2021 season and become the Worcester Red Sox.
Sadly the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic meant that fans never really got to say goodbye to the PawSox and many never knew they were watching the team's last game at McCoy on September 2, 2019.

Since their departure, the stadium has been mostly empty, being used as an extra practice facility for the Boston Red Sox, hosting a series of concerts in the summer of 2021 and playing home to one last fireworks display in the summer of 2023.
Now however, the decision has been made to demolish the baseball stadium and build a 482,000-square-foot high school campus in it's place.
A decision that wasn't easy for Rhode Islanders to wrap their heads around.

Though the announcement in January 2024 said destruction would come within the year, it is actually only getting underway soon.
Pawtucket officials are closing off the stadium and nearby Pariseau Field to the public beginning the last week of February, so that demolition can get underway in mid-March.
Crews will be coming in to knockdown all existing structures, so that ground improvement workers can begin preparing the property for the new high school this summer.
So if you need a last look at McCoy Stadium in person, head to Pawtucket soon. If you want a peak at the inside of the abandoned ballpark, keep scrolling.
