Boston Red Sox to Use McCoy Stadium for Practice
Great news, baseball fans: we will have live baseball games in 2020, right in our back yard at McCoy Stadium. According to NBC10, the Boston Red Sox plan to use McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island as an alternative location for additional players to get ready to play, and I am ecstatic to hear that the Boston players will be staying sharp in Pawtucket.
Baseball was my sport of choice growing up. I went to my first Red Sox game when I was 10 and I thought it was the most magical place in the world. The smell of peanuts, the roar of the crowd, the gigantic green monster, the crack of the bat. I loved it all, and from that moment on, I was a Red Sox fan.
As I grew older, my Red Sox memorabilia collection grew. I even had a Nomar Garciaparra glove for when I took to the softball fields. I’ll admit that I don’t follow the Sox as closely as I used to, but the sport has such a special place in my heart, and I was devastated for the baseball community when the season was affected by COVID-19. Sports are a source of happiness for so many people, and I’m just glad to hear that players will be taking the field in 2020.
My first experience at McCoy Stadium was five years ago when I got the chance to throw out the first pitch. It was one of my fondest memories during my earlier years in radio, and I remember feeling about McCoy the way I felt about Fenway, that it's a place of beauty. There is something special about the ball field, and to have the Red Sox back in action with the help of McCoy Stadium gets me pumped up.
Take me out to the ball game, it’s baseball season, baby!
