Breaking Down the Official DESE Educator Salary Formula

Per the DESE website, "total teaching salaries, divided by the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers, equals the average teacher salary."

From the Berkshires to the Cape: The Ultimate State Pay Disparity

The area with the lowest salary is Florida, MA. Yes, Florida. It's a tiny, remote town located in the northern Berkshires with an average salary of $44,429.

The district with the highest average in Mass. can be found a little closer to home in Provincetown, where the average salary is $164,619.

Teachers and administrators all over the country are welcoming students back either in person or virtually. This will definitely be a challenging year being in person due to COVID cases and protocols that need to be in place to keep everyone safe.
