Dear SouthCoast,

I have to come clean about a problem I’ve been having in my home, and it’s not pretty. Well, at least it doesn’t smell pretty.

Whenever I come home and walk through the front door, I get hit in the face with a smell that is rather unpleasant. This might be TMI, but I need some advice on how to get rid of this mystery smell. I pride myself on being a “host house” when I can, so the last thing I need is my guests to think of my house as the smelly house!

Candles, cleaning products, and sprays just don’t seem to get rid of it. At first, I thought it was our litter box because, you know, the role of a litter box is a smelly one. But after scrubbing the box and thoroughly cleaning the area, the smell continues to linger.

People talk about nose blindness, but this smell has not escaped my senses just yet. I cleaned out my fridge, washed my couch cushions, and mopped the floors, but still, this smell persists. My fiancé Ross doesn’t smell anything, but he has broken his nose so many times that his sense of smell is less than trustworthy.

The biggest problem is that I can’t put my finger on what it smells like. We all know what dirty shoes or rotten food smell like, and this stench is not that. Am I missing something here? Does mold have a certain smell that maybe I’m unfamiliar with or am I just going crazy?

I need your help!

Sincerely,

A Stressed-Out Homeowner with a Sensitive Nose
