My Case for Father’s Day Gifts for ‘Dog Dads’
Father's Day is right around the corner and it got me thinking about something that's somewhat controversial, but I'm convinced I have a solid case.
Here me out: if you're a "dog dad" or a guy who has a dog, then you should be able to celebrate Father's Day just the same.
I'd like to know who deemed the holiday to be celebrated for only those who have human children, because in my eyes, the term "child" doesn't stop at human. My daughter Bella is a dog and I am her father. Therefore, I'm gladly celebrating Father's Day this year.
The facts are out there: a lot of couples are unable to have children of their own, so they adopt pets to add life to the household. I myself do not have children just yet, but respect all the fathers out there, including my own.
Each and every day, I ensure that my dog has fresh water (from the Brita filter, because she's fancy), a good healthy meal twice a day, long walks for exercise, plenty of pets and oodles of cuddles. If I'm at work, I make sure to come home at a reasonable time so that she's not alone for more than five hours. When she's a good girl (which is most of the time), I award her with treats and dog cookies.
I posted the question on my personal Facebook page "Should 'dog dads' get gifts for Father's Day?" and within an hour, there were over 50 votes. About 95 percent said yes, and about five percent said absolutely not. It's good to see I'm not alone on this.
All in all, my dog is a priority and a responsibility that I do not take for granted. Yes, dogs are not on the same level as human babies, and I understand that with full agreement. I'm just stating the fact that either way, you have someone or some dog's life to take special care of and for that, I'm proud to be my dog's father.
So, throw a dog dad a bone on this one, and the same goes for dog moms when Mother's Day comes around. I've stated my case and I'm closing my thesis. Happy Father's Day to all and to all a good night.
