It sounds a bit unusual, but it's being done in Boston, and it's now proposed for New Bedford.   Outgoing Ward 5 Councilor Jane Gonsalves has proposed that the council discuss the possibility of installing public pianos around the city.  They would be placed on street corners or at landmarks.   It just so happens that the volunteer organization known as "N.B. Beautiful" was discussing the same idea.

Gonsalves works in Boston and says there is one of the public pianos near her office, and she can hear the music.   The Councilor said she thought maybe it could be done in New Bedford as well.

Boston currently has 75 of the pianos placed at various places across the city.  Most were donated from private homes.

Today it's pianos, next it could be public drums.  I'd go for that.
