President Obama hopes to send a message that renewable energy is feasible for everyone. Technicians have finished installing solar panels on the White House roof.

The President said in 2010 that he wanted his family's home fitted with solar panels, then use the power generated to heat water for the first family and provide some electricity. Installation finally started in 2013.

The White House won't say how many panels are on  top of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. or how much they cost.

The panels are expected to generate 6.3 kilowatts of solar power whenever the sun shines

The President hopes this example will spur other families and businesses to reduce our reliance on foreign energy..

You can go green too with the help of Acushnet Alternative Heating.
