While we don't live in an area as seasonal as the Cape or the Islands, we certainly do live in a seasonal part of the state. It might not feel like it at times, but during the summer months, we experience a decent-sized increase in population and visitors from other states, both near and far.

Partially due to the departure of tourists in the fall, we see a significant number of businesses close for the season. That can be tough to cope with when you're a year-round resident (like most of us here on the SouthCoast).

The most vivid example of this, in my memory, was my love affair with Acushnet Creamery. It was intense during the summer months, cooled off a bit in the fall, and then broke my heart every winter when it closed for the season.

I'd "stock up" as their closing date approached. I'd order tubs of my favorite coffee chip flavor and even bring home some of their jimmies.

I'd try to ration the ice cream until that glorious day arrived—the day Acushnet Creamery reopened for the season. On the SouthCoast, that day was comparable to Opening Day at Fenway. It meant spring was finally here.

But opening day only came after a long, hard winter of withdrawal. I'd complain to anyone who'd listen about Acushnet Creamery closing. I think the owners got so sick and tired of hearing me complain that they decided to stay open year-round. I'd like to take some credit for that decision, even if there's none to be had.

We asked the Fun 107 audience which seasonal SouthCoast businesses they think should stay open all year. Here's what they said.
