Step Back in Time at Tiverton’s Historic Schoolhouse Stay

Now that the kids have gone back to school, adults can do the same at this unique Airbnb stay in Tiverton, RI.

Sitting in the idyllic Tiverton Four Corners is a 225-year-old schoolhouse that can now be rented by the night thanks to Airbnb superhost Kristin. You'll even get to ring the school bell, write on a blackboard and sit at a classic school desk.

Even though the Old Tiverton Four Corners Schoolhouse No. 1 hasn't been a school in over 100 years, it still has the same exterior look from when it was built in 1800 by the Manchester family.

From Manchester Family to Public School

Though it is unclear whether the Manchesters opened their school to the entire town or used it for private lessons within the family, they ultimately sold the building, along with four acres of land, to the town in 1854 for Tiverton's official public school system.

It was then one of Tiverton's 12 one room schoolhouses until 1925 when school consolidation began. But instead of being abandoned like many one room schoolhouses of the time, it was bought by locals and turned into a private family home.

Preserving Tiverton's Schoolhouse Charm

Even better, the family that bought it (the Regos) kept the schoolhouse façade, the 24-inch cast-iron school bell and the double front doors (one entrance for boys and one entrance for girls), so today people can still enjoy the schoolhouse feel when they spend the night.
