Its Ash Wednesday, but if you didn't have time to get to church there apparently was a drive thru option in Tiverton.

ABC6 News reports that Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Road was offering members drive thru ashes today.

Father John Higginbotham was greeting people in the church parking lot earlier today to smudge crosses of ash on their foreheads as Lent began.

As he explained to ABC6,

This takes about 15 seconds to do and they just make the U–turn and go out and they are done. They are on their way."

The service is offered during a three-hour window in the morning hours as busy parishioners head off to work. He says they have been doing this "drive thru" service for 4 years now and see about 100 people come through.

They also hold regular masses for those who prefer a more traditional Ash Wednesday experience.
