Did You Know? Taylor Swift Donated 10K to This Boston School
Taylor Swift seems to be really good at two things—making music and giving back.
Remember when she gifted $100,000 bonuses to the US truck drivers for the Eras Tour?
Swift has become notorious for jaw-dropping moments like that one and she shows no signs of slowing down.
It’s only a matter of time before we hear about the next great thing this "tortured poet" does, but until then, let’s take a look back at this iconic moment from 2012 when she donated $10,000 and concert tickets to a school in Boston after it was the victim of a mean-spirited prank.
12 years ago, Swift was about to release her fourth studio album Red. It also marked her first year on the Forbes list of highest-paid women in entertainment.
She teamed up with Chegg and Papa John’s for a contest that would send the star to perform at the school with the most online votes.
Soon after the contest launched, trolls got their hands on it.
According to the Boston Globe, internet trolls on 4chan and Reddit began nominating Horace Mann School for the Deaf in Allston because they thought it would be funny to make Swift perform for deaf students.
“Others found the 4chan campaign offensive but decided to boost the school for the sake of the Allston students who would be ecstatic to get the Swift show,” said the Globe.

Jeremiah Ford, the school’s principal/headmaster, became aware of the prank but was hopeful that his students would win, even if the win resulted from mean-spirited trolls.
The contest ultimately removed Horace Mann from the running because of how it got votes, but Swift wasn’t about to let the students pay for what the trolls had done.
The singer gifted the school $10,000, which was matched by both Papa John’s and Chegg. Cover Girl and American Greeting also matched the 10K and VH1’s Save the Music program decided to give the Massachusetts school another $10,000 in instruments for the students.
And every student got a ticket to her next local show.
“Are we the winner? Absolutely,” said Ford to the Globe.
When it comes to doing the right thing, Swift has proven time and again that she will make things right, no matter the cost.
