An exciting mixture of music and art is coming to the Taunton Green on May 21st for the second Downtown Art Jam, presented by The Downtown Taunton Foundation, Real Art Studios, The Trescott Street Gallery, & The District Center for the Arts.

Eileen Kelleher, program manager at the Downtown Taunton Foundation, explained how the event will be a celebration of all things art.

“Our main mission is to promote arts and culture in downtown Taunton,” she said. “We want to bring people to the city. It’s been a longtime goal of ours to put on an art walk and it kind of evolved into this elaborate event.

In the past, the foundation hosted a similar event called “Taunton creates” with more of an emphasis on artwork and not as much music. The Downtown Art Jam is a reinvention of the previous event to make it even better.

Kelleher said to expect some walking, as there are different sights spread out around downtown.

“People can expect lots of live music, hands-on art activities, artists selling their work, and different sites to see art exhibits at the Colony History Museum and the District Center of the Arts.”

There will also be three new murals being actively worked on by artists, giving people the chance to see the art take shape.

Listen to good music, eat good food, and enjoy downtown Taunton as the arts come alive on the green.

“I think we have some pretty amazing local artists and I don’t think it’s something we have brought to the surface in the city,” said Kelleher. “Our surrounding communities have really brought their arts and culture to the forefront, so one of our goals is to really shake up the art scene and give our local artists some attention.”

The Downtown Art Jam is a free, rain or shine event. It promises to be fun for the entire family.
