Maddie Levine Says No to This Popular Holiday Trend
The holidays are here, and so are the beloved traditions that come along with them.
Glistening lights on houses, stockings hung inside, and busy shoppers trying to cross off their to-do lists before Christmas Eve are all signs that the holidays have arrived.
Nothing beats Christmas morning when the family gathers around the tree and you exchange gifts with one another.
Gift exchanging is my favorite, and needless to say, I was disappointed when my mom suggested a new way to celebrate Christmas this year involving fewer gifts.
Instead of my immediate family of six exchanging gifts with one another, my mom suggested a Secret Santa where we only buy for one family member.
Here’s why I am not on board.
It’s not about greed and wanting more than one gift. It’s about wanting to give more than one gift. Call me crazy, but I enjoy shopping for my loved ones. Sometimes, it’s hard to figure out what to get my Dad or my brother, but when I see them light up after opening the gifts on Christmas morning, it warms my heart.
When I receive a gift, I feel so loved no matter what it is. Whether it’s jewelry or a coffee mug, it brings me so much joy.
I understand the value of Secret Santa. Trust me, it's necessary to do it with the Italian side of my family, otherwise, I would be bankrupt with the number of family members I have. But when it comes to my immediate family, I want to hold on to that childlike glee of gift-giving a little longer.
