A Swansea coffee shop is putting together a super easy way to help out some town residents that need it.

The Stark Family from Swansea

We first met the Starks back in December. This year's Holiday Wish Week was a special one for us. It marked our 10th season helping local SouthCoast families alongside the United Way of Greater New Bedford. Thanks to the generosity of the Fun 107 audience, five families received life-changing support.

One of those families was the Starks from Swansea. You may remember that both of their sons were diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease. Their mother, Stephanie, described their condition as "similar to Bubble Boy," meaning Liam and Dominic do not have immune systems capable of fighting off colds, viruses, or other illnesses.

Mounting Medical Bills

While no amount of money can cure Liam and Dominic’s health issues, fundraising can help cover the cost of medications that insurance companies often fight against. Doctors at Boston Children's Hospital prescribe essential treatments, but insurance providers sometimes deny coverage.

Family activities are very important to the Starks.  "We don't know what the future holds for our family," said Stephanie.  The family has a tough time balancing the risk associated with doing fun things in public and the need for the boys to experience life.

Aroma Joe's Fundraiser

To support the Stark family, a fundraiser will be held on February 15 at Aroma Joe’s, located at 755 Grand Army of the Republic Highway in Swansea. Helping is simple—all you have to do is order a beverage. One dollar from every drink sold will be donated directly to the family.

Cash donations will also be accepted throughout the day at the Swansea Aroma Joe's.
