It wouldn't be the perfect summer without an ice cream cone. At one Swansea ice cream stand, Mondays come with an extra sweet reward for kids who know a few patriotic words by heart.

Eskimo King has brought back its annual "I Pledge" Project, giving children 12 and under a free kiddie cone every Monday in July from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. All they have to do is recite the Pledge of Allegiance from memory.

This year's tradition kicked off Monday, July 6, continuing a summertime favorite that's been around for well over a decade. While plenty of ice cream shops offer specials throughout the summer, this one combines a frozen treat with a little lesson in American history.

A Summer Tradition That Keeps Going Strong

Owner Nancy Diemoz first discovered the idea years ago after reading about a similar promotion in an ice cream industry magazine. She decided to bring it to Swansea and it's been a hit ever since.

Diemoz said she enjoys knowing that even in a small way, the promotion encourages local children to learn something meaningful. She also loves seeing families return year after year to take part in the tradition.

Here's How It Works

If your child is 12 years old or younger, stop by Eskimo King any Monday in July between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance from memory, they'll receive a free kiddie cone in the flavor of their choice.
