A Union representing thousands of Stop and Shop workers in Massachusetts is going ahead and authorizing a strike...

According to Metro, union members voted yesterday in Randolph to authorize a possible walkout but no strike date has been set yet.  The contract between the supermarket chain and around ten thousand workers expired at midnight on Saturday.

The two sides remain very far apart on issues including wages, benefits and pensions.  The Southcoast has 8 local Stop and Shop Supermarkets with employees who could be affected by this potential strike.
