One of the best and brightest talents in Fun 107 history passed away on Thursday, and it has left us broken. Christine Fox had been fighting complications from a double lung transplant caused by rheumatoid arthritis. She left this world at Mass General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Christine worked as a member of the Fun 107 air staff off and on since 1995. She did her best and most memorable work, though, as the better half of the Rock and Fox Show. She was the funny, creative one. The one with the contagious laugh. She’d often laugh so hard her face would redden. That’s when I knew I really had her!

She was the very first face I ever saw here at Fun 107. She gave me a big hug and welcomed me to my new radio home. Knowing her for 30 of my 51 years, she was (referring to her in the past tense will take some getting used to) one of my very best friends. Christine has been like a sister to me for my entire adult life. She was in my wedding.  Her family is like an extended part of my family.

The Special Connection We Shared on the Radio

Doing our morning radio show together was effortless. We always got each other’s jokes, and we could communicate with one another without words (a useful tool while on the air). She would find comedy in everything we’d do. She made me feel like a million bucks when she’d laugh at my jokes and immature silliness.

Work isn’t supposed to be that fun, but it was with my friend Christine.

Christine Fox’s Powerful Impact on Her Friends and Family

Christine was one of those true friends who looks out for you. I’ll never forget one day, not long after I met her, we were having lunch at the Friendly’s that used to be in Fairhaven. I was looking for a refill on my soda but was having trouble flagging down our waitress. Christine grabbed my empty glass, jolted up, walked around the counter like she owned the place and filled my soda.

That’s just the way she was. She was always looking out for people and didn’t care who got in the way.

Christine was so powerful. She was such a force. She had so much energy and drive that she was willing and able to take on fights for other people she cared about – and she loved it.

She was also a tremendous coach. Gazelle would not be the massive radio personality that he is now without the help, encouragement and mentorship of Christine Fox.

Nothing was more important to her than her family. Her boys were everything to her. She is someone who can truly say she put her family first, and she did it with actions, not just words. One of the reasons she left the Rock and Fox Show was to be more present for her two growing sons.

The Love of Christine's Life: Roger

Christine’s husband Roger was the love of her life. Roger was the person who could harness Christine’s wildness and add a cool layer of calmness to her unwieldy strength. She absolutely adored Roger. In a world filled with divorce, they were the perfect couple. The sun and the moon. Thunder and lightning. Fire and ice. That was Christine and Roger. That was the strength of their unbreakable bond.

A Friend Like No Other: Christine Fox’s Unstoppable Spirit

After she entered the hospital in February, she didn’t have the energy to talk on the phone, so I’d text her each day with an inappropriate, funny memory or inside joke that only we’d know and appreciate. She somehow found the energy to heart each one so I’d know she saw them. She was tough as nails.

After her double lung transplant, she was in the battle of her life. There were days that I wanted so badly to text her how much I loved both her and our friendship. I wanted to text her how much I cherished it. I never did. I never told her I loved her because I was afraid she’d think I didn’t think she was going to survive. I regret that. I do love her. Her tenacity and fire for life were so admirable.

Saying Goodbye to a Radio Legend

For a radio station named Fun, we sure have had our share of tragedies. Between JR, Sharon, J-Rod and other behind-the-scenes staff members, Christine adds to a growing list of Hall of Fame Fun 107 talent who now call Heaven home.

As I get phone calls and texts from countless colleagues in the radio industry, the music industry, advertisers, listeners and fans of Fun 107, the reality of her void is becoming unbearably real. I genuinely can’t believe that I’ll never have one of our two-hour conversations again. Her absence stings. When I first found out about her death, I wanted to call her to talk about it.

I love you, Christine. Thank you for filling my cup.
