SouthCoast families are looking to get out of their homes, and the South Shore Trustees reservation is a perfect option. They’ve put together Reindeer Quest.

This is a self-guided scavenger hunt spanning five properties: the World’s End, Whitney & Thayer Woods and Weir River Farm in Hingham; the Norris Reservation in Norwell; and Two-Mile Farm in Marshfield. You’re looking for reindeer on vacation after a hard-working Christmas holiday. It’s your job to find each one vacationing in its natural habitat and score a family selfie. Once done, take some time to choose the perfect filter, and use the hashtags #SSreindeerquest and #thetrustees to be entered to win the top prize.

The reindeer aren’t real but made of wood created by the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of Hingham, Norwell, and Scituate. Each hand-crafted reindeer has a QR code attached. Your photo will be able to reveal each reindeer’s favorite choice of ice cream and reindeer game. You don’t have to find every reindeer at once; you can make it a multi-weekend activity because the event starts on January 17 and continues through February 28.

The experience is free, and every property mentioned has a webpage with a trail map. Also, one location requires you to preregister for parking so it’s best to send your questions to asmithwhite@thetrustees.org. It’s a wonderful way to stretch your legs and see parts of the South Shore unique to the area, all while being able to comfortably follow COVID guidelines.
