Free House in Nantucket, But There Is A Catch
It's a lovely cedar-shaker sided, three bedroom home in Nantucket and it's being given away for free.
Sure, this sounds like an April Fool's Day joke, but the reality is free houses happen all the time in Nantucket and this 2,180 square foot is just the most recent freebie available.
With a bit of a catch, of course.
It's probably no surprise that the world's most expensive beach destination is also one of the most expensive places to buy a home.

So I guess when you can get one for free, you'd jump at it.
Unless of course, you have no place to put it.
Yes, currently a three bedroom, three bathroom home with bamboo floors, a glass shower and living room fireplace is being given away, but you need to have some land to put it on.
Back in October 2023, the property at 51 W Miacomet Road in Nantucket sold for just over $5 million. But the new owners didn't want the house, they wanted the 4.20 acres of stunning South Shore beachfront the house stands on.
The land is a beautiful oasis nestle right next to acres of conservation lands and the Moorland Management District. It has ocean views and Miacomet Pond views and is covered with greenery like scrub pine and scrub oak.
A genuinely beautiful spot, that is about to get a brand new house.
Yet before the new owners can build their dream home, they need to move the old home away.

That's where you could come in.
Seems giving away this house valued at nearly $800,000 is a fantastic tax write-off for the new owners, so they have teamed with the non-profit Housing Nantucket to donate the house and get it off the land.
Someone with a place for it could end up with a lovely new home, for essentially no dough. And this house is lovely, certainly not one I'd just give away.
