RI Shriners Donate 1,100 Football Guardian Caps

As a mom of two who love to be active and play sports, there are really only two things I hope for my children when they're on the court or field: have fun and be safe. While the smiles are endless, the risk of injury is always in the back of my mind.

For young football players in Rhode Island, risk of head injury is about to decrease thanks to a generous donation from the Rhode Island Shriners Organization. The group is donating 1,100 Guardian Caps to 36 schools across the Ocean State.

“Keeping young athletes safer requires a commitment from everyone involved in youth sports, from coaches and families to schools and community organizations,” Guardian Sports CEO and Co-Founder Erin Hanson said. “We’re proud to help bring Guardian Caps to student-athletes across Rhode Island and support their commitment to protecting the next generation.”

Guardian Caps are made of a soft, thick material that fits over a football helmet. The added protection helps to decrease the severity of impact. The protective material cushions the blow, helping the athletes and giving parents some peace of mind.

"This partnership with Guardian Caps is a natural fit with our mission and our commitment to improving the health, safety, and well-being of children throughout Rhode Island," Secretary of the RI Shriners Charities Trust Frank DiMascio said. The protective headwear will be presented to the 36 Rhode Island schools on September 6.
