Somerville’s 19th Annual ‘What The Fluff?’ Festival Returns Sweeter Than Ever
Somerville's quirkiest celebration, What the Fluff? A Tribute to Union Square Innovation, is back for its 19th year, honoring the iconic invention of Marshmallow Fluff. On Saturday, September 21, from 2-6 PM, Union Square will transform into a playground of fluff-filled fun, drawing enthusiasts from Greater Boston and beyond.
Expect live music, delicious Fluff-inspired treats, and sticky, fun-filled games for all ages. Two lively stages—Fluff’n Jam Stage and Shenanigans Stage—will host a jam-packed schedule of entertainment that promises to delight everyone.
Here’s what else you can look forward to:
- Midway Games: Take a shot at old-school boardwalk favorites like Fluff Bowling and Fluff Ring Toss for free!
- Innovation Alley: Explore creations from youth inventors, enjoy S’MORES made by a bot, and relax in the Inno Alley Lounge, all in the spirit of Somerville’s history of innovation.
- Parkour with Parkour Generations Boston: Learn the ins and outs of this thrilling sport from local experts.
- Bike Valet: Worried about parking your bike? No need! Enjoy the festival stress-free with two free bike valets courtesy of Mass Bike.
The festival will also feature 14 food vendors, 32 craft vendors, and 15 community partnerships, all working together to create the fluffiest event of the year.
Getting to the Fest: With limited parking in Union Square, the best way to join the fun is to walk, bike (take advantage of the free valet!), or use public transportation. The MBTA Green Line drops you right at Union Square Station, just a short walk from the festival’s East Entrance. For those driving, parking on the outskirts of the square is highly recommended. Be sure to check for bus detours in the area.
Come out and experience the wild, wonderful world of Fluff in this madcap tribute to Somerville’s history of creativity and innovation.
