Providence News Station Hilariously Moves Father’s Day to Monday
A Providence news station wants to make sure all the local dads have the best weather possible for Father’s Day – so much so that they’re apparently willing to move the holiday back a day.
During the nightly news following last night’s Game 5 of the NBA Finals, ABC6 put up a graphic with the week’s weather. Junior Jay was watching when he noticed something odd about the graphic.
Monday June 19 will be 77 degrees and mostly sunny – “Nice for Dad,” according to ABC6, which also labeled the day as “Father’s Day” on the weather graphic.
The only problem is, they’re a day late.
Sunday, June 18 – the real Father’s Day – is supposed to be 74 degrees with a mix of sun and rain showers. Perhaps ABC6 just didn’t want dads to have a rainy day?
“I thought it was because they got mixed up because Juneteenth is Monday,” Jay said. “I honestly went and checked my calendar thinking they might have switched it.”
Of course, typos are not totally uncommon in TV news. Often, things are happening on the fly and there’s limited time to double-check and make sure everything is perfect.
It’s also not the first time this year a Providence station has made a mistake with a weather graphic. Back in March, WJAR accidentally referred to Dartmouth as “Fartmouth” when reporting rainfall totals.
