Once Again, Hollywood Is Filming in New Bedford and Taking Over Downtown

Once again, New Bedford is representing Hollywood East as film crews take over downtown.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, the city alerted locals, commuters, tourists and business owners that AMC is setting up shop for a television series.

The following traffic restrictions will be in place Oct. 13-21:

• No parking on 8th Street between Mechanics Lane and Union Street, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• No parking on Madison Street between County and Orchard streets.
• No parking on William Street between Acushnet Avenue and Johnny Cake Hill (Additional parking restriction Oct. 18 from Purchase Street to Acushnet Avenue)
• No parking on Acushnet Avenue Between Elm Street and Barkers Lane

The following traffic restrictions will be in place Friday, Oct. 14, 4 to 6 p.m.

• No parking Purchase street between Market Lane and William Street (west side)
• No parking on Purchase Street between William Street and Mechanics Lane (both sides)

The following traffic restrictions will be in place Monday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 19.

• No parking on Union Street between County and 7th streets (north side only)
• No parking on William Street Between County and 8th streets (both sides)

Crews were spotted unloading multiple trucks in preparation for the filming over the next eight days.

We're awaiting official word from the city, but signs point to the series being Invitation to a Bonfire, Variety describes as a 1930s-era psychological thriller.

IMDb describes the series this way:

Set in the 1930s at an all-girls boarding school in New Jersey and inspired by Vladimir and Vera Nabokov's co-dependent marriage, it follows Zoya, a young Russian immigrant and groundskeeper who is drawn into a lethal love triangle with the school's newest faculty member -- an enigmatic novelist -- and his bewitching wife.

While some are excited for the filming to take place, the sudden announcement no doubt caused some concern among people for whom parking downtown was already complicated.

Regardless, New Bedford has been a hot spot for films such as Jungleland (starring Charlie Hunnam), Finestkind (featuring Tommy Lee Jones) and a horror film called Interference that was filmed at Dillon's Restaurant on County Street.

As of this writing, there have been no sightings or mentions of big-name actresses and actors wandering about, but stay tuned for more info as filming progresses.
