There is nothing like a classic, summer road trip. Packing up the car, stopping at random roadside attractions and taking in the scenery flying by at 60MPH are vacations that have endured for decades.

America has some perfect road trip spots too. Historic Route 66, taking you thousands of miles from Chicago to Los Angeles, and the 653-miles stretch of California's Pacific Coast Highway typically come to mind.

But what about a 10-mile road in Rhode Island? Can that be a road trip at all?

According to HGTV, the answer is yes. The television network recently listed their '25 Most Popular Road Trips in the U.S.' and even little, old Rhody has cracked it.

It honestly seems impossible that a state just 48 miles long (42.3 miles if you are traveling on I-95), could even be considered for a road trip list. 48 miles does not really make a road trip if you ask me.

Even more unbelievably, HGTV doesn't include the entire state on its list. Just a short 10-mile drive along the shore in Newport.

Why Ocean Drive Made HGTV's Road Trip List

Clearly based on the extreme popularity of HBO's "The Gilded Age", HGTV included Ocean Drive in Newport on this summer road trip list. They even admit as much.

In the article's plug for Ocean Drive, the writer points out that those obsessed with the show can visit the real Gilded Age Newport mansions with a drive down this iconic street.

Ocean Drive passes the Hammersmith Farm estate where Jackie Kennedy grew up, the Castle Hill Lighthouse and several state parks too, so I guess one can see the appeal of driving through this area.

Pair This Trip With Route 6A For a Quick, History Filled Weekend

More serious road trippers could combine the Newport trek with another local drive HGTV included on its list, Old King's Highway (or Route 6A) across the coast of Massachusetts.

Two shorter road trip drives that would be perfect for history buffs.

Newport Mansions Seen in HBO's 'The Gilded Age'

"The Gilded Age" film crews have returned to Newport, Rhode Island, for several weeks of filming for the upcoming second season of HBO's hit show. Casting calls from March gave away the International Tennis Hall of Fame as a site for several scenes and, of course, several of the historic city's epic mansions are being used as well. Here are all the places filming is expected to take place around town this May.

Recapture The Gilded Age in This Hawthorn Street Home

Many New Bedford homes can claim to be from America's Gilded Age, but not all of them still feature their late 1800s architecture. This historic home on Hawthorn Street however does boast most of its original interior features and is certainly a sight to see.
