Gigantic Gilded Age Mansion Is The Most Photogenic In Rhode Island
With the new season of The Gilded Age premiering soon on HBO, the Newport mansions will once again be on display in their full glory on TVs everywhere.
Luckily for us seeing them IRL is also super easy.
With Newport just a bridge or two away, driving by to see them, tour them or just snap a photo in front of them can happen any time at all. Among all of these beloved mansions, is one that gets more photos taken than any other in Rhode Island.

What Is Rhode Island’s Most Photogenic House?
From its numerous appearances in magazines, wedding shoots, feature films and TV shows, Marble House in Newport has certainly earned the honor of being Rhode Island’s ‘Most Photogenic’ home.
The opulent summer home of Alva and William K. Vanderbilt, Marble House was built between 1888-1892 using 500,000 cubic feet of marble. When it was complete, the home was given at Alva as a 39th birthday present and she used it to host lavish parties, balls, receptions and even women’s rights rallies.
It’s no wonder she and her ‘most photogenic’ mansion have been noted as the inspiration for characters and sets in The Gilded Age series.

Yet even if it was never featured in the HBO series, Marble House has had plenty of Hollywood love.
The stunning Beaux-Arts style home features Corinthian columns reminiscent of The White House and such intricate detailing both inside and out, you’ll want to capture every room on camera.
Add to that its cliffside location overlooking the ocean and you’ve got pretty much the perfect selfie background everywhere you turn.
Alva even added a stunning authentic Chinese Tea House to her backyard in the early 1900s, which still offers seasonal tea service to locals and tourists alike.
