Matt Rife Announces 2027 'Suite Rife On Deck' Comedy Cruise

Comedian Matt Rife is hitting the high seas and delivering laughs with a brand new comedy cruise. Suite Rife On Deck: A Matt Rife Comedy Cruise sets sail Wednesday, February 10, 2027 and features a slew of talented comedians including one local man from Rhode Island. Doug Key joined The MGM Show to discuss the cruise, his friendship with Rife, and what guests can expect while on board.

From Local Roots to the Open Sea: How Doug Key Met Matt Rife

Like Key, Rife is also a Rhode Island resident, so the two crossing paths was only a matter of time. "When Matt first moved to Rhode Island, I saw the news story as most people did in Rhode Island and when he moved here, he probably asked around and he heard my name because I've been doing comedy almost 17 years," Key said. "We eventually just kind of met and then he asked me to do a couple of fundraiser shows...we became friends, he texted me, and he was like, 'Hey, what are you doing next year for Valentine's Day?'"

He'll be working out his set in hopes of wowing the guests aboard the comedy cruise. With so many different styles of comedy, we had to know what Key tends to deliver. "I'd say mine is kind of a combination like, Seinfeld, observational comedy. I also have some stories, maybe a couple one-liners, I'll riff with a crowd a little bit, it's appropriate," Key said with a chuckle.

In speaking with Key, it was clear that he caught the comedy bug early on. "My dad was old school guy. He watched a lot of (George) Carlin and (Richard) Pryor. Then I kind of grew up in the age where Comedy Central was putting out half hour Comedy Central Presents specials: Greg Giraldo, Mitch Hedberg, Greg Fitzsimmons, Bill Burr, Louis CK, all those '90s-era comics," Key said.
