Converted Newport Firehouse Offers Highest Private View in City

The housing market is on fire everywhere you look and experts say it's not slowing down anytime soon. In Newport, Rhode Island, that has led to some massive mansions hitting the market all summer long.
From this16,544-square foot home that boasts the biggest pool in Rhode Island to the allegedly haunted house that currently has the highest price tag in Rhode Island, bigger was better in the Ocean State.
Behind all the big houses with their even bigger price tags, though, was a quieter (and I think cooler) trend in the Newport housing market: converted firehouses.
Back in 2018, we told you about Redwood Hose Station 8 that was transformed into a stunning $4.7 million home. This summer, Newport Fire Department Hose Co. 6, built back in 1888, made its debut as an amazing Airbnb. Now Fire Station No. 1 in downtown Newport has hit the market, too.
Located at 25 Mill Street and listed by Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty, this iconic building from 1885 is the latest historic firehouse turned luxury home to go up for sale in Newport. It is just as jaw-dropping as the previous converted firehouses before it – maybe even more so.
First off, Fire Station No. 1 is older than the other two firehouses. It was once home to Old Torrent No. 1, known as one of the first organized fire companies in America, and it was home to Newport's first horse-drawn steam engine. Now it could be your home for the asking price of $3.495 million.
It is also has the appeal of being zoned for both offices and residency, meaning you could literally work from home – as in have the whole office work from your home. There are work spaces, living spaces, a separate apartment area, eight different levels, a private roof top deck and, yes, the firepole is still there too. It's certainly a must-see house that adds another fantastic firehouse conversion to the Newport real estate scene.
