New Bedford Teacher Accused Of Assaulting Devalles School Student

The mother of a 9 year old student, Gavin Soto, says she wants the teacher who assaulted her son at the Devalles School to be fired. According to police, the unidentified teacher grabbed the boy's hooded sweatshirt from behind when he ignored her requests to get back to class...causing it to scratch his face and choke him. Police also reported that the teacher grabbed the boy's face and yelled at him...leaving behind some red marks. The incident happened before school on April 8th. According to the Standard Times, the boy's homeroom teacher reported the incident to the Devalles School principal.

The teacher has been placed on paid leave. New Bedford Police and Department of Children and Families are investigating. No charges have been filed.
