New Bedford Man Killed While Cutting Tree

54-Year-Old Olimpio Tavares was trying to cut down a tree in his yard on Phillips Road Saturday evening.   Police say he was using cables to brace the tree while he cut it with a chainsaw. 

But, as the tree was falling, the bottom shot up and knocked him to the ground.  Then the entire tree feel on top of Tavares.   EMT's were called, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
