New Bedford Crazily Makes National News for Just 4.5 Inches of Snow
When you haven’t had a significant snowfall in a couple of winters such as it’s been here on the SouthCoast, I guess even a little plowable snow is newsworthy.
My ears perked up this morning when I heard New Bedford mentioned on the ABC national newscast on WBSM.
As I settled into the studio at 6 a.m. to prepare for my morning show (after making my morning coffee, of course), the ABC newscast began with a report on the snow that blanketed the Northeast Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Due to copyright issues, we can’t share the audio with you, but I did transcribe the news report for you:
“In New York City, the biggest snowfall of the season. More than three inches of heavy, wet snow accumulated. A race to clear the sidewalks in New Bedford. Boston getting more than five inches, its biggest snowfall in three years. At Logan Airport, more than 450 flights delayed or canceled, more than 3,500 nationwide.”
However, as I later found out from a coworker, the ABC News audio broadcast was only a portion of a longer piece that aired on the ABC national news on television, using footage provided by WCVB-TV in Boston.
Check it out:
Kind of funny to think New Bedford can make the national news just for receiving 4.5 inches of snow, as reported by ABC6.

We do have the potential for snow coming up again a few times later on this week. Hopefully it won’t be enough to get us on the news again.
