Drive-in theaters are a dying breed, unfortunately. Every kid deserves to go to a drive-in movie at least once in their life.  Spring has finally arrived, and although it's been a very long time since we've had drive-in theaters here on the SouthCoast, you can still bring the kids to a drive-in movie if you are willing to take a little ride.

Rhode Island's one and only drive-in theater is the closest to the SouthCoast. The Rustic Tri-View Drive-In is roughly an hour away in North Smithfield. It closed for the winter at the end of October and has an opening date set for April 26.

The Mendon Twin Drive-In located in Mendon, Mass. opens tonight! It's just over an hour away from the SouthCoast.

The Wellfleet Drive-In Theater is the only drive-in movie theater on the Cape. In addition to the drive-in, it also features standard cinemas. The drive-in theaters, however, open just a little later in the season than the other two options due to the fact that the Cape really doesn't shift into full gear until Memorial Day weekend. That's why you won't see the Wellfleet Drive-In Theater open for business until May.

Chin up, though. At least the drive-ins don't still look like this!
