NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Everyone is always looking for a place to cool off during the hot summer days. Beaches are always the go-to for families but can sometimes be an all-day expense.

Heading out to the beach requires a lot of planning, preparation and money, which may be more of an inconvenience when you want a quick way to cool down.

Thankfully, there are splash pads that get the job done just as well as a beach trip or a water park adventure.

Splash pads and public pools are like hidden gems throughout the state, and it can be challenging to locate the closest ones nearby.

For those in New Bedford, local spots like Ashley Park, Clasky Common and Riverside Park are available throughout the season. These spots offer access to water jets, making them perfect for a refreshing break during a summer stroll.

Fall River residents can enjoy smaller splash pads at Pulaski and Thomas Chew Park, which have playground equipment nearby.

As days get hotter and the nights get longer, we compiled a list of splash pads and pools around the south coast you can visit when it's too hot to stay inside.
